Open-IX Publishes Crosswalk Between OIX-2 Standards and HIPPA Regulations

OPEN-IX has published a crosswalk between OIX-2 Data Center Standards and current the current HIPAA regulations as a resource for customers of OIX-2 certified facilities.

In the world of Health Information Technology, compliance with the HIPAA regulations is in the forefront for both large and small healthcare organizations. HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, sets the standard for protecting sensitive patient data. Any company that deals with electronic protected health information (ePHI) must ensure that all the required physical, technical and administrative security measures are in place and followed.

Data Center operators who service the Healthcare industry must in turn demonstrate compliance with the HIPAA regulations. This document identifies the Open-IX standards and how they cross over specific aspects of HIPAA.

Customers of OIX-2 certified facilities can utilize this document to understand how the certified operator is addressing the HIPAA regulations. The document addresses the HIPAA requirements the operator may be responsible for via a Business Associate Agreement (BAA), Contract, or SLA, ensuring scope is appropriately limited.
