The OIX DDP (Document Development Process) will ensure the open, transparent, bottom-up, and ongoing development of OIX standards and BCOPs (Best Current Operational Practices).
Boston, Massachusetts, 20 October 2017 – The publication of the Open-IX Document Development Process (OIX DDP) marks a significant milestone in the history of Open-IX. Formally documenting the process by which Open-IX standards and Best Current Operational Practices (BCOPs) are created and updated makes clear their commitment to open, transparent, bottom-up, and ongoing community involvement. The OIX DDP provides a framework for participation by all interested in the proliferation of interconnection and the creation of more resilient and efficient global internet infrastructure.
"The OIX Document Development Process represents years of work by countless folks so I'm really excited to see it published by Open-IX. Having this framework in place really provides two benefits. As a statement, it makes it clear that Open-IX is fully committed to the open community collaboration that is the hallmark of internet development. More pragmatically, it facilitates greater participation across a wider group by clearly stating how to participate. This marks a solid step forward on the path that Open-IX has been pioneering since inception," says Chris Grundemann, chair of the OIX Standards Committee.
In addition to helping enable updates to Open-IX’s existing internet exchange point (IXP) OIX-1 and data center (DC) OIX-2 standards over time as the state of the art evolves, the OIX DDP also enables the suggestion and creation of new standards and BCOPs whenever a need is identified. This reinforces Open-IX’s commitment to openness and provides a forum for the discussion of real-world network engineering standards and best practices as they emerge within the global network engineering community.
About Open-IX Association
The Open-IX Association (OIX) is an Internet community effort to improve the landscape of Internet peering and massive-scale interconnection. OIX encourages the development of neutral and distributed Internet exchanges while promoting uniform standards of performance for interconnections backed by the Internet community. The Association aims to promote common and uniform specifications for data transfer and physical connectivity and improve overall Internet performance by developing criteria and methods of measurement to reduce the complexity that restricts massive-scale interconnection in fragmented markets. The OIX Board is comprised of volunteer representatives from the Internet community, including, Matthew Griswold (Chairman), Eli Scher (Vice Chair), David Temkin (Founder), Robert DeVita, Vinay Nagpal and Aaron Hughes. More information about OIX can be found by visiting www.open-ix.org.
